Help! My son came home from (dorm) yeshiva with all of his stuff and it looks like he hasn't washed his linen since Chanukah! The pillow and sheet have this gray tinge to them. Any advice how to get it out?

What color are they supposed to be?

The sheet is (was?) white and the pillowcase has a cream, gray and white pattern on once side and just the cream on the other. Both the white sheet and the cream pillow case now have a very obvious grayish tinge.

Or keep sending it back to the dorm where no one cares anyway

He probably did wash it. Boys tend to dump all their stuff together in washing machine and that’s what happens with light colored clothes and linen.
I would wash it on hot and either throw it out if it’s the same or send it back to dorm if it doesn’t bother him. The next set will prob be the same after a year.

Sigh. I guess that's the answer.

I bought my boys navy blue linen. Just plain, no patterns. They like it, it's masculine, and I don't think about how often it's washed 🙉🙈

Soak on oxi. Then wash it with a color catcher.

Sounds like he washed the sheets together with dark colored garments.
Try soaking sheets with some acid based liquids for spot removing. Then wash at minimum 60 degrees C.
You have an excellent opportunity to reach you son how and why laundry needs to be separated.

Why? The discoloration is disturbing to mum. The son seems to be fine with it.
