Be"h I'm due with my first. My husband and I are going over name ideas, and one we both like is the same name as a very close friend of mine. Would it be weird to keep the name as an option? It wouldn't be after the friend, of course.

Just gave my baby a good friend’s name. I joked with her that I have a good association with it. We haven’t discussed it since

I would be tickled pink if a friend of mine gave her baby the same name as me .... Maybe not the full name, unless she told me it was after this person or that ... But just my first name. I would be delighted

Is it a super uncommon name?
My kids have classic Jewish names that of course I have friends with that name. If it was a super creative name that only 10 people have and you name the same as your friend, it could be strange

I named my baby the name of my best friends baby who was born 6 months before.
I liked the name. Alot. So did my husband.
So we did it.

Not at all, assuming you make it clear that the baby isn't named FOR this person. Nobody has exclusive rights to a name unless it's a copyrighted brand name. I think she'd be tickled pink, assuming she likes her name.

Not at all.
When my BFF heard my older sons beautiful name, she right away told her husband that of she has a boy, she is naming that name. (She was newly married)
She had her first boy and named him that.
She named her next boy a different name, and then I was pregnant with another boy.
Dh brought up the name first, but it was the only name we could agree on, so we both have 2 boys with the same names.
(The names are from Tanach, My boys have second names named after relatives, but we call them by their first names.)
No one has a copyright on names.

I'm making up names here.
My friend is chaya leah, which are common names but uncommon combo.
My husband loved the name leah, and because he kept hearing me mention chaya leah, he said, what a nice sounding name! how abt chaya leah?
I said no way because that's my friend's exact unique name, too weird.
My dd is plain leah.
(Totally changed the names, but you get the gist)
