So this is a normal price for nursery? (it's a program class which is supposed to be free)

Yep. Do the math.
5500 / 12 = 458 a month.
That includes building fee, transportation, registration and what not.
But, my program is not free. I don't think my school even has a headstart/upk program.

My program is 10 months. so it's 550 a month. It's a 3k class which should really be free. but I guess it's normal, I was just surprised

By us, it doesn't include registration, insurance, building fee, transportation, snack fee.

You pay 12 months tuition even if school is 9.5 months.

It's a set amount for the year. Most schools give the option of dividing it either in 10 months or 12 months.

If it’s a 3k program technically it should be free. The school im sending my kid to is charging 2k for transportation, 500 building fund, 500 dinner fee, 259 registration fee. 5500 sounds like a lot. What is the breakdown? It should say on your contract.

breakdown is as follows: 3950 tuition+550 transportation+1000 building fee (plus I already paid 500 for registration, so it's technically 6k)

I'm being charged 1k for transportation each way, so 2k total. That's it. This is for UPK but 3k should be the same.

The chutzpah!!!! I sent to an amazing 3k program last year and there was zero charge!!! Whoever wanted transportation, paid just for that.
It's pure chutzpah, the school gets tons of money per child from the government.

My school explained they charge for 3k because then they can charge lower tuition across the board so even though you paying when you shouldn’t you are paying cheaper all the coming years and for the other kids.

Don't both parents have to be working to be eligible for 3K?

No it's universal regardless of income or anything else.
