Does anyone know if passports are being issued now? It's unclear from the main passport web site. Can I just call my local post office and ask?
How long does a new passport take during normal non-corona times?

Not true. I know people who got their passports back in a few weeks. It really depends. The people who sent in right before the pandemic hit are the ones waiting forever.

it's a new passport, for a child. They might not issue it bc theyre discouraging travel, right? and we probably won't have it in time (need it in about a month). Not sure what to do.

Call a passport express service.
The earlier the better and the earlier the cheaper.

I did a new passport application for my 4 yr old, at local post office in Brooklyn, on July 24.
As per current tracking with USPS it is supposed to arrive tomorrow.
Less than 2.5 weeks.
(Not expedited.)

Does anyone know what number to call to make an appointment in Brooklyn? I tried logging in and all Kingshwy hours are reserved or blocked for the forseeable future. I can't figure out how to make an appointment on the website. I tried for 9/18, but it says I cannot book from now.
Any other suggestions on where to get passports done?

You can go to any post office. Also, apparently you can apply for a passport at central library and kings highway.
https://www.bklynlibrary.org/passport
You can also google passport office in Brooklyn.

We scheduled an appointment online (I think the earliest available was a month in advance). We printed and filled out our forms ahead of and had our pictures ready when we came in for our appointment.

I know, but having a hard time trying to get a date. They won't let you book ahead. Is there in place where you can go without making an appointment anymore? besides those expediating places?

No not these days unfortunately. There's only 1 postal employee who works on passports and appointments are booked back to back in advance.
