I’ve noticed that it looks like some women in my shul who usually wear makeup are coming for Kol nidrei without wearing anything.
Personally I would never let anyone see me without any makeup so I always wear some light makeup for coverage but I was wondering if it’s brought down somewhere not to wear anything.

(I’m not talking about applying on shabbos or yomtov obviously)

Yes, there are people that hold of no jewelry or makeup on yom kippur. I don't know the source for it.

We don’t wear gold jewelry on YK because of the Cheit HaEigel. Never heard of makeup though. AFAIK that’s for Tisha Bav.

I don't wear eye makeup yom kippur because I cry, and I don't want to look like a raccoon. It's that simple.

So funny! I once asked my sister why she put makeup before YK everywhere but her eyes and that’s what she told me.

Honestly I know some people don't have time for makeup with all the YT prep, last minute seuda, shower, getting machzor to shul before the zman.
Never heard of a minhag or inyan regarding not putting on makeup before YK.

We do not wear make up, jewelry (exception is watch) or nail polish-it comes off erev YT.

We do wear barrettes, even with rhinestones.

I would think that putting on make up on yom kippur would be one of the 5 issurim, no? Anointing one's body.

Yes, I know about the jewelry
Do you wear your rings? Wedding/engagement…
Maybe I’ll take out my earrings…

But I was wondering about the makeup thing…

I specifically said they come to shul for Kol nidrei without makeup. That’s Yom Kippur night so obviously I would apply before yk begins.
It’s definitely not allowed on Yom Kippur

Why not makeup?

I was taught about jewelry that it isn't appropriate to adorn yourself when standing in judgement, and davening for your life. I never heard about make up, but it is easy to see how one could extend the same logic.

I would just assume that it is in the spirit of the whole day (starting at night) to not put on make up.

We don't wear makeup. We'll cover a zit or a dark circle, but nothing to enhance. It's about coming simple, like malachim. We also wear white. I was brought up with wearing white and no jewelry or makeup. It amazes me bow to see that the minhag of white seems almost gone.

My Rov said that’s wrong. It’s still a Yom Tov. He said light makeup is fine.
