I’m not sure this is the right topic to post in-
I live in NY and I’m starting a job in NJ soon. How long do I have to work in NJ until I can get paid family leave? I want to go off BC soon but will need the paid leave.

Has anyone dealt with this?
I see conflicting info, one place says 12 months another says 20 weeks.

You need to work a certain number of hours and earn a certain amount. I got pregnant right after starting a job in Lakewood and I was working part time. I did not qualify. If I had been working full time I would have qualified.

So I could get paid leave after 20 weeks but wouldn’t have job protection until I’ve worked for 12 months?

You can call LRRC. They’re the Lakewood organization that helps people with programs. 732-942-9292

You are mixing up 2 things:
1) Paid benefits for nj disability and family leave. You get that if you earned 12k over 12 months and/or worked 20 weeks. Benefits calculated based on avg of I think the last 6 months.
2) job protection via NJ FLA:
You need to work for a company of 30+ ppl and for a year for your employer to have to save your job.
Obviously you would discuss it with employer first, but if you dong qualify fir #2, they can replace you (not fire you).
When I worked I know when someone wanted to take off 6+12 weeks, the manager let her know that if she wasn't ready to come back earlier, she was looking for a new worker.
