Going to visit my kids at end of January- do I need a winter jacket and a raincoat- been there 10 years ago (Yerushalayim) and remember how tricky the weather is...

It might be very rainy in January but it's often freezing cold as well. I would go with a warm winter coat that has a hood and can work for a rainy day.

Definitely bring a winter coat. January can be very chilly in Jerusalem. I was there in March and regretted not having a a coat.

This week has been really, really cold. I've had the heating on in the house and the kids are wearing sweaters and warm winter coats to go out. You might luck out during the day but as soon as the sun goes down (about 4 pm) it gets super chilly.

You deff need a winter coat, the rain is cold rain. The best is a lined insulated rain coat

Yes, we were there in March with lightweight jackets, and we were freezing.
