My 18-month old dd had terrible ear pain this past trip. Until now she has always nursed at take-off and landing, but on our last plane trip she was already weaned. She does not know how to suck from a bottle or sippy cup (straight from nursing to cups).
We are flying again and I want to know if anyone has good ideas to protect her ears.

chewing gum
opening the mouth
yawning
swallowing your saliva
some say pinch your nose and blow, but I find it painful

Will she drink from a juice box?
Would you allow her to suck on a lolly?

Thanks for the tips.
She doesn't know how to sip from a straw, so I don't think a juice box would work. But I will try a lollypop.
Any other ideas would be great as she I think it gets really painful.

I have terrible discomfort and pain too when travelling on a plane so I used to take Panadol, or whatever pain killers you take about an hour before landing this realy helped. But then my Dh bought something in the pharmacy called ear planes which you put in the ear and this helps alot too.
