Can anyone help me with this?

What counts as watching TV? And what we have to pay for?

We dont have an actual Tv with channels.
My husband usually streams games on random websites.

We both have BBC app but I only occasionally watch live.
Is this what it means?
Thought you have to sign in , and I dont have an account.

I have ITV X app on my phone, and I do watch old programmes.

Does anyone know exactly what its for?
Because I dont know of anyone who pays this, ppl without Tvs, but they all watch.

What about BBC I player?
We dont go on that, but occasionally kids have clicked on it.

Also if its chargeable, why is everything avail to click on, without specifying youl have to pay?
And then we randomly get letters in the post...

Thanks in advance.

Channels. Do you use sky sports or the like?

I don’t believe for Internet apps like Netflix ect you need to pay, but if you are getting letters it’s best to confirm and reach out to them.

And the license is from the government, not from the tv programs so yes, you can click wherever you want.

You need to pay license fee to watch any live tv on any channel, even if it’s online and for BBC iPlayer. You don’t need a licence to watch catch up from channel 4, itv or other non bbc channels.
The letters they send are just bullying tactics, practically they have no way of catching you even if you watch stuff you shouldn’t without a license.
If they knock on your door say I don’t need one and close the door.

If you watch on bbc, iPlayer, live or on demand, you need to pay for the license fee. Although they may not be able to catch you, it is against the law and therefore stealing to not pay. Occasionally on I player it asks you if you have a license and you can click yes or no but they don’t ask for proof. The bbc news app doesn’t need to have a license to read or watch the short clips, but if you are watching live then you do.

I’m not recommending anyone to lie or steal. I’m just saying the facts of the matter, and reassuring her that if she watched something she wasn’t supposed to in the past she shouldn’t worry about getting caught.
Also saying that the company who enforce the licence try many tactics to get ppl to pay when they don’t even have to so shouldn’t get worried if they send someone to check your house, you shouldn’t let them into your house.

You need to go online and fill out the form to say you don't need a licence, then you don't get the letters anymore. It doesn't sound like you use anything to warrant a licence. Other streaming sites or movies doesn't count as tv. It's only for watching live from tv channels, such as sky, bbc, itv etc.

I don't think so.

I just went online and told them that I don't have a tv nor do I watch anything live. (I think the letter mentions you could do this) and that was it.

I know that live tv includes the itv app, but I'm not sure what else.

Hope that's helpful!

Just wondering how do they track if people watch stuff?
Or do they?

Do they just send these letters to every household until people opt out?

Yes I think they need you to either opt out, or pay.
If you do nothing they harass you.

We pay.

Tv licence website 'You also need to be covered to download or watch BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer – live, catch up or on demand. This applies to any device and provider you use'

You say you watch on BBC I player, u need to pay. No one us forcing you to watch.

Next time you use I player or watch live TV (any programme) then pay
