my towels stink of mold and I dont know why and I put my load in the dryer as soon its done it does not sit in the washer and I use lots of detergent and downy.
what can it be.
the towels smell good when they come out of the machine but when we wash our hands and dry them then our hands stink of mold and so does the towel and also when we come out of the shower also after we dry it stinks.

I read this on a different thread and tried it and I believe it is working.
I wash the towels on hot and put both detergent and baking soda in the machine.

wash your towels in bleach to kill the bacteria.
I started doing this and it really works. my towels never smell bad anymore.
make sure to dilute the bleach in the water before adding the towels or you'll have white spots.

I am not a huge fan of bleach, and I am not so sure it is a very good antisceptic. It can also damage the structure of fabric.

Washing on a very high temp works and you might want to hang them to dry in direct, strong sunlight (for a few hours, this also kills mold). It might not get the stains out, but it does kill it.

I just pour until I decide its too much. I would be scared to use the bleach.

Vinegar works amazingly! No smell either, the soap takes it out.

Another vote for the vinegar! I believe I got that idea from this forum. I had the same exact problem and it really works. I buy the big bottles of vinegar and leave it near my machine, just put in about 3/4 to 1 cup in every towel load. good luck!

to dark towels, or ones you cant use bleach on, use ammonia. it gets rid of the bacteria thereby ridding of the smell.
