Prices of groceries are going up up up!
Will they ever go back down?
I wonder, many times, are stores/companies just taking advantage of the trend?

It’s probably more likely that wages will go up, that’s inflation right?

DH salary aint going up!
I think its the workers working at/close to minimum wage who are demanding a higher salary.

That's the issue of minimum wage.
Anyone who earned below that amount either gets raised OR they lose their job because a machine is cheaper or the business can "do without". Think baggers at the grocery store. Where I live they raised the minimum so much over the years that not only do they not have separate baggers but they don't even have many cashiers! They have 1 person manning 6 self checkouts and only 1 checkout person open at a time to comply with disability laws.
More responsibility and work for fewer workers.

Anyone who used to make above minimum who is now minimum is upset. They want a raise. They had earned the $2 an hour raise and now others got it for free.
Then the shift manager complains because she has more responsibility so deserves more.
And the cycle continues. And prices go up. And up and up.
They just raised it again here.

And honestly why do I have a stressful job, with a lot of responsibility, graduate school loans... to only make $5 more an hour than the other employees?

Not by me. The company I work for has offices in India and they let us all know that there is a freeze now on hiring anyone in the US and all new positions or openings will be outsourced to the Indian offices.

Exactly! And some of the higher prices are probably a reflection of wage increases, as well. It's a cycle.

The definition of inflation is basically salaries not going up as quickly as prices.

Exactly. It costs more to do business if you have to pay higher salaries.
I am not getting any raises or bonuses. I can't just switch my job either. But I am exploring some of that...

I was shocked when the price went down on one the items in grocery after there was no longer a shortage.

I would say it depends the reason of the increase.

Sometimes there is a temporary shortage which is reflected in a higher price.

Well I’m messed over.
I’m in healthcare and the reimbursement rate is going nowhere fast as with a raise in minimum wage for the bottom of the pay scale along with a RN shortage-so they need to bribe them, which I am not, and the increased expenses of PPE. Last 2 years we had a salary freeze (but got lovely letters thanking us for our hard work and telling us what valuable members of the team we are). BTW, switching facilities is not going to help.
DH took a significant pay cut, as the company he works for is floundering and incase you haven’t noticed, many industries are cutting jobs, especially the mid-management level.

If your husband’s salary isn't going up, and prices are, it may be time for a second income.

Prices very rarely go back down after they go up. If they do, you know the economy is even more of a bad place because it is the beginning of a recession when people don't have money to buy so stores are losing money so they bring the prices down to encourage buyers. It's a vicious circle.

I reckon my monthly budget is up 40% from this time last year. My salary has not increased and is unlikely to because the company expenses have also increased and they don't have the extra money to increase salaries as well.

Check into historical inflation-recession cycles. We're not in a good place.

It's very scary. There are legitimate reasons for this inflation...and then there's the reality of food companies with record profits. It's a sick, scary world if you actually pay attention. But Hashem is in control and Moshiach is on the way
