You are probably too far away from your subject for your flash to manage properly. Sometimes you can correct it later using photo-editing software (like photoshop).

no even when I zoom I get it and I'm not too far off.

I'm not sure if it has to do with the photogropher, lights flash etc...

ho wcould you correct it in photoshop.. what does that do??

the more u zoom the less light u let into ur camera....so zooming when the light is low isnt that great...is ur camera inauto mode?..usally halls r to the darker side but u should be able to get nice shots

btw if u dont have photoshop u should still be able to playaround with the brightness and contrast...lots of devolping place that have kiosk stands give u the option of brightness and contrast, turning pic into b&w or sephia..adding a border and other stuff like that

If halls are towards the darker side, then shouldnt the setting on the camera be for the night setting? It's very easy to change the flash setting. I'm not sure what button that is on your camera but you'll see different small icons coming up on the screen. One of those icons should be of a moon, that means that it's at a night setting and you can take pictures when it's a bit dark.
Hope that helps you.
