I am working with a Hungarian women who says that her grandmother was Jewish.
Would anyone know how I can find out her ancestry? She needs proof she is jewish .
All she knows is her grandmothers name.
Anyone?

Hiring an ancestry company (it costs some $$ but they are the best) and setting a date with a competent bet din...
Let her find things like ketubot and also she gotta figure out where her family was buried, etc.
Be aware that if she does NOT have solid prooves, she will need to do a giur.
I am sorry if I sound rude or direct, but nowadays just about everyone says they have some "jewish ancestry" and that´s fine, but that does NOT convice a competent bet din.

Thanks.
For some reason she wants to find out. I have no clue why. She doesn't seem too interested in yiddishkeit @ all...
Didnt know where to begin.
Guess I'll give over the info.

Try jewishgen.org and go to the link that says Family Tree of the Jewish People.
You need to register to use it but it is worth it. I found family members on there that I never heard of before. Of course not every Jewish family is listed but it is worth a try.
