I’m having an argument with my dh
Told him I needed flanken for yapchick.
For erev Yom Tov.
What do ya all put in your yapchik?
Boneless meat or flanken?

Please help me know what meat I put in what

Want to make erev Yom Tov food & shabbos pesach Chulent , which I both make with a potato kugel recipe.

Yapchik is grated potatoes and becomes one big mush with the meat.
Chulet has potato chunks with chunks of meat, more like a stew.

You can put in any meat of your choice. I like second cut brisket for yapchik; I shred it once it's baked. For chulent I like flanken and chicken cutlets, cut into chunks.

For Yapchik I use beef stew diced.

Fort Cholent I use a variety of meat, chunks of potatoes, and onions.

If you use flanken for yapchik you need to use boneless flanken

I thought yapchik is potato kugel with a layer of meat in the middle. I would only use boneless for yapchik. Pesach cholent is just cholent without beans and barley. Like stew.

This is how I make yabchik:
Saute an onion. Dice beef stew in small pieces & add to pan. Sauté for afew minutes till brown. Mix in well with potato kugel batter. Bake 1 hour on 450 & 1 hour on 350.

Most people I know make a stew with meat and potatoes for chulent.
While yapchik is with shredded potatoes like a potato kugel recipe plus meat.

I used to make my pesach Chulent like a stew
With cut up potatoes. But one year I made it with shredded potatoes & layered meat & my family loved it.

So I do that now.

So you started making yapchik.
We sometimes do both. A chulent and a yapchik.
