What are your favorite picture books? For kids 2 and 4
No annoying rhymes please! And no moralizing.
Can be Jewish or secular
Thank you!

I love the Little Train that Could - I suppose it has moralizing and some rhyme though.
Malky is it Shabbos Yet
The series - I go to the Doctor, I go to the Park, I go to a Wedding.

My favorite Dr Seuss to read aloud is Fox in Socks
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See and The Very Hungry Caterpillar aren’t super deep or amazing, but my kids loved them

Most of the Sandra Boynton books I know are short board books, but they are well written and illustrated. I made up tunes for some because the words have such a natural rhythm! (Apparently some actually do have recorded musical versions with an “official” tune, but they work simply spoken to a rhythm or with made up tunes!)
I like:
Birthday Monsters
Pajama Time
Blue Hat, Green Hat
Hey, Wake Up!
But Not the Hippopotamus
Barnyard Dance
Doggies
Snuggle Puppy
Night Night, Little Pookie
The Bunny Rabbit Show
The book Your Personal Penguin became a joke between me and my BFF when we were in our shidduch dating period. We joked about finding our own “penguin” (black-and-white clad bochur) who was as dedicated as the one in the book 😆

If you like Tacky the penguin, you’ll enjoy A Porcupine Named Fluffy, which is by the same author/illustrator team!

Any book by Julia Donaldson. Even her rhyming ones are very well done.
I'm also a huge fan of Dr Seuss.

What do you mean, you don’t get them?
You don’t think they’re funny?
You find the “punchline” confusing?
I’m not sure what to explain
