What are you using it for? For most people, no. But in certain businesses, yes. For example, businesses where you are competing to get products, or doing heavy processor designing.

Not all i5 or i7 are created equal. Depending on the exact model, the i5 could be faster than the i7. As well as the speed for the processor, you also want to know how much RAM the computer has.
If you're only using the computer for browsing the internet, some microsoft office and basic stuff, it shouldn't matter that much.

For home use we use laptops that cost less than $500. Why do you need such an expensive machine? Do you do a lot of video editing?

no video editing. I have a laptop but need a desktop. I want it to be fast, the desktop we have is slowing down.

The i7 also has 16gb ram vs. only 8gb ram for the i5, so I’d go with the first one.
