We tried scrubbing it down which helped alot but I would still prefer some other alternative!

I've never tried this, but if it's really dirty, take it outside on a really hot sunny day. Maybe spray with some type of cleaner, then hose it down and let it dry in the sun.

We will do that but the sides are dirty and this is the part that worries me most as DD will pull up and put her face and mouth on that part.

Hi Emee, long time no speak Very Happy

I asked my friend who said to try a scrub brush with lots of detergent and warm water.

My idea (and if you say how horrible it is, we all know what will happen Tongue Out) is it could be worth renting or borrowing one of those heavy duty wet vacs or giving it in to our neighborly ppl who do that. Call me for more info!

There's really no way other than what you did.

We rub baking soda into the railings and scrub a lot. Then wash off in the shower.

I used shout and some other stain remover do you think it is worth tryning baking soda? DH says any germs that may have been there are gone by now with the shotu and other detergent so what is left is just stains.

I don't think baking soda would do much more.
Just make sure you washed the detergents out VERY well.
