Can I use olive oil instead of sesame oil in Susie Fishbein’s sesame noodle recipe? Will it change the flavor a ton? Also that just is so so much oil and sugar can I cut back on the sauce without compromising the recipe much?

Olive oil is a completely different flavor then sesame oil. I would quicker substitute soy sauce or something similar.

I actually just made sesame noodles with 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 sesame, it was ok (not fully undetectable)

Thanks. The recipe already has soy sauce. I was hoping not to have to buy sesame oil for just one recipe but I’ll go ahead and just get it.

Oh I thought you wanted to sub for health reasons.

Definitely use sesame oil, the flavor is important in the recipe.

Yes it’s absolutely essential for the flavor to use sesame. I love sesame oil I use it a lot in my chicken dishes even salad dressings. Now that you’re buying it use it for other things too!

Every shabbos, I sauté vegetables in sesame oil, and then after it’s soft I add solan or maple syrup, and soy sauce. It’s delicious!!

Sesame oil is not used as an oil but rather a flavor. It’s not worth it to leave it out

Fasting and this thread made me hungry... I just made some sesame noodles! They wouldn't be the same without the toasted sesame oil.

I use a tasteless oil (extra light olive oil) and just a splash of sesame oil. Like it better that way.

Anything except peppers. Usually it’s some combination of

Garlic
Onions
Mushrooms (shiitake if I can find) zucchini
Yellow squash
Snow peas
