Just wondering what is normal.

My house has broken or ripped but still mostly functional
folding tables
folding chairs
couches
towels
toys
luggage
books

Do people really replace all these things when they break? If so, what is your budget for these kinds of things?

Books get taped, especially if kids books. They'll just rip it again.
Toys are repaired if it makes sense (wood toys are glued back together) but usually just tossed
Furniture I personally don't care about especially with little kids but I guess I depend how bad it is. You can always buy secondhand

I think luggage is the only thing I'd really replace since it affects function

I would replace folding tables and luggage since those can break on you badly in middle of usage.

I would fix or leave alone most of the others.

Towels get replaced on a rolling basis (turn worst few into rags, buy replacements) every few years.

We tape books, and anything else if it's torn or broken but still functional we don't care. My favorite best and most absorbent towel is very torn, but still works (I wouldn't give to it a guest, but for me it works)

Kids ruin things. I don't think there's a point in replacing immediately if still functional.
