Add on to something he already enjoys
Magnatiles- add specialty pack
Lego - add people or animals
Animals - add trees and real rocks
Clics- add more options

Or introduce him to something like playmobil. I like starting with 1 big thing like the schoolbus that comes with some people. Not just a small set of people
