I read on mycurves.com that pelvic tilts tone the tummy that everyone wants to get to - and that crunches will not get that area.
is this true?

Crunches sometimes just build muscle that makes stomache seem larger.
Everybody will tell you something else. I believe cardio helps you lose fat everywhere, is healthy for the heart (when done properly) and should be the #1 method to lose flab anywhere.

I heard conflicting things about lunges.
lunges can make your tush bigger- but rounder.
so it's great if you wear pants.
not so great if you wear skirts.
but I would lunge anyway- I don't care as long as I am more toned.

I don't think that's true. Crunches definitely affect the pelvic area - you can even feel those muscles contracting when you do that exercise.

All of these exercises are great for the abs:

No idea.
I like incline on a treadmill for a nice butt.

No, he's only doing pelvic tilts in the section that's titled "pelvic tilts". Pelvic tilts (at least what they call pelvic tilts on this site) are only used as a warm up and cool down.

if you lift your legs upward (form an angle greater than 90 degrees) while you do crunches it will also work the lower stomach

Keep in mind that pelvic tilts are more for relief of lower back pain and will strengthen the support muscles around the lower back - they won't do much in terms of really flattening ones belly.
