We are making a bar mitzvah next year during sefira. Had anyone here had the same and can advise on who they hired in place of music?

It might depend when during sefira. We were told that we could switch our minhag for just that year, and that we should make a siyum at the seuda (it wasn't bo bayom) to ensure it would be a seudat mitzvah for everyone who attended.
