I want the recipe plus directions of the salmon served in typical chassidishe homes. I believe it is cooked with a carrot if it helps. Thank you.

Onion, several cloves garlic, 1-2 carrots, plenty salt, pepper, Paprika & white pepper, a very generous pour of sugar. Cover with water & boil for 45 min approx. Add fish skin if you want gelled sauce (will only congeal once chilled overnight).

Slice one onion and place on bottom of pan (or disposable deep 9x13)
3 cloves garlic
1.5 cups sugar
2 tablespoons salt
3 carrots

Add about 2 inches water, bring to a boil.
Add approx 6 slices salmon for 50 minutes.

I cook my gefilte fish with carrots, not the salmon.
In any case here's my chassidishe salmon recipe
4 slices salmon
2 large onions thinly sliced
1 3/4 cups sugar
1/4 cups lemon juice
Salt
1 3/4 cups water

Place 6 qt pot on high heat till it gets very hot, put sugar and onions in and reduce flame to medium
Stir the onions for 10 to 15 minutes till the sugar melts and the onions are very soft
Add salmon and rest of ingredients
Cover and cook for 40 minutes

These recipes seem too elaborate. No garlic or lemon needed.
An onion, water, salt, and sugar. I mostly eyeball it, so I can't give you amounts. I cook it with a carrot. I also add fish skins to get the "kotchenyu"

You people put so much sugar!! Carrots is suppose to be a natural sweetener, no?

I don't put carrots cuz noone in my family likes. I cook my salmon with gefilta
1 onion sliced
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
black and white pepper to taste
paprika for color
I use the fish powder instead of skin so my water goes by cups. I put around 6-7 cups water. First let the water boil up and then add powder. Put in gefilta, cover, and cook for 45 min. Then add salmon and cook for 30 minutes.

I use same recipe for when I do only salmon too. Boil up the water and then put in salmon.

Omg!
I’m so not a fan of Hungarian salmon boiled in sugar water.
Also their dips.

I like their baked goods and desserts though.

For my family that would be way too undersalted and under sugared.

Truth is that salmon alone doesn't need any sugar. When cooked with Gefilte thats when you need the sugar. Personally I cut it out recently but the Gefilte is definitely missing it. (cook both together)

I think I’m making it wrong. I use the powder and it doesn’t come out as sweet and the salmon is tough and rubbery. I’m looking for that melt in your mouth texture.
