My dining room chairs, table and couches are dark brown. I'm thinking of redoing the fabric of the seat of the chairs. I need color ideas that I can show my husband online so I can pick a color. I need more color and brightness in the room but don't want to do just one solid light color because of the kids. patterns or plaids or s/t like that. what colors match and which ones would look good? what should I look out for?

I love yellowish gold with light blue, or green.

What color are your walls? What style is your furniture?

Beauty and the beast's idea sounds nice. Maybe something floral would be nice too. I like one color with two tones of that color in the same fabric. For example a floral soft salmon pink fabric in shades of that color only.

I love floral, or stripes too are very nice.
speaking of being worried if the kids dirty the chairs, most chairs are upolstered in light colors. Unless you want dark colors, you might have to go for plastic...

I don't love plastic over fabric. You can always go with leather (or pleather, less $) but it doesn't sound like it will go with the style of the rest of the furniture.

I love colors in the red family. It all depends on what you like. What is your favorite color?

I like green but husband doesn't think it'll match the dark brown. he likes navy but I don't like navy or blue. maybe red but dunno if that would match. maroon mite match. dunno.

A soft warm pink (with orange undertones) always looks good with brown as does gold. Gold on gold is very pretty too.

I think something in the red-orange family would be perfect and warm up the room. You just have to pick something that isn't too bright.
