I think it depends on the kind of house. Most houses do not count the basement square footage. Lots of times are high ranch/ bilevel the lower floor is counted in a square footage.

I think it’s included

But if it’s pulling the info directly from an agent listing then probably not as agents don’t usually include basements in the total square footage

Based on experience Zillow is oftentimes not accurate.
I looked at houses that were bigger than their description.
I would ask the agent.

Generally not. Also zillow is not accurate it's usually put in by the seller or realtor so don't trust it. Just use it as an estimate.

If the basement is a finished basement it might be included
If the basement has a bathroom it might be included
If the info provided is not accurate you won’t know.

Zillow does not verify their info, so it might be right and it might be wrong.

I saw a listing on Zillow that was 700 sq ft discrepancy !

Zillow pulls directly from the MLS. Unless it's a for sale by owner or something, nobody actually goes into Zillow and add the listings there.

Most of the time square footage does not include a basement. The only time the basement may be included is if it's a bilevel/ high ranch.

In my area where there are some pretty small houses, the basement is often included. It's not always though.
