Would you name a daughter a name that sounds similar to your own?
Like Adina/Aviva, Tehila/Temima, Faigy/Fraidy, Ayelet/Yael etc. (not the actual names but you get the idea)
I have been blessed with a few girls bH and expecting another and we are out of family names. One of my favorite names has a similar sound to mine. Is it weird, or confusing? I wouldn’t do it if it was a pair of siblings (like Aryeh and Ariella or Bracha and Rachel) but parent/child names aren’t used in the same way or at the same frequency.
Please share your opinions, thx!

I don't even see it as a question, of course I'd do it. I'd do it with siblings too, similar sounding names was not something I ever thought to worry about.

None of the names you you mentioned sound very similar at all. As long as it's not from the same root I would do no problem

My daughter and I have similar names. We didn't even realize when we named her.
We're all fine with it. Only time I hesitate is with her teachers. I say hi it's Mrs. Smith, Chani's mother.

My husband is eliyahu and son is elimelech. When we told someone what the baby's name was, he was confused cuz he thought my husband is elimelech. Lol
But they're both called by nicknames, so doesn't sound the same.

My daughter's name is Nechama and my husband's middle name is Nachum.
It's not weird! It's kind of sweet, actually!
My husband's first name is Chaim and his mom is Chaya

Now that you mention it I know a father/son pair with those names too, though I think it's the other way around and one of them goes by a middle name!

Really?? I thought those were just different pronunciations of the same name. What do they both mean?

I get what you’re saying, op. I didn’t use my grandmother’s name because I felt it was too similar to mine.

Never even thought about that, and practically speaking I see it done everywhere.
