Crime is up in my neighborhood so I ordered a video doorbell. I think it has a motion sensor for when to record or put alerts on the app or something.

Does this pose shabbos issues and is there a way to prevent shabbos issues?

My Rabbi says that since it's passive no shabbat issue. As long as you don't have a screen that will turn on when it's activated... At least I think. My dad told me this a while ago..

But there are leniencies

Definitely a question for your LOR. We have a different security camera at our front door, and our LOR told DH that we should deactivate the motion sensor, so that it runs 24/7 and our coming and going doesn't affect anything. Different models may also work differently, so definitely don't pasken based on what anyone says here, and ask your LOR.

We turn off wifi for shabbos. Not ideal if you want the cameras to work though. Maybe there's a better solution.

We turn off motion detection on the ring every erev shabbos, and unplug the Wyze camera in the nursery

I have a wyze doorbell and since it lights up when you walk up to it my rav said I need to turn it off for shabbos. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known it is very annoying.

Anyone know if ring is the same?
I preferred wyze to ring because it comes with a chime so you don't need a device to hear it ring. Plus no subscription

Huh? Our ring has a chime in our house, not only on the phones. We’ve had it for many many years
Also we don’t have a subscription
