Whenever my child (8) eats, they are always left with a line of food around their mouth.
They are trying hard to eat with their mouth closed but it seems to be difficult for them. Is that what is causing this?
If not, how can I help this stop?

If they can't seem to keep their mouth closed, have them seen by a myofunctional therapist. It's likely a structural issue like tongue tie, small jaws, high palate, low tone etc.
Are they a mouth breather? Enlarged tonsils/adenoids?

I think many kids have this. Just teach to use a napkin.
