I just got a new coat from a supposedly good Canadian brand. The label says “this material is unique and the color may transfer into lighter materials. This should stop with time.”
Help! Should I return immediately? It’s a nice fit and aside from this fits all my qualifications for a coat, hard to find

Soak it cold water with a few tablespoons of white vinegar before you wash it the first time.
Prevents the colour from running.

Don't wear it with light colored items close to it. Don't sit with coat on light colored sofas or chairs, color may transfer.
I would soak coat in cold water with lots of vinegar. The smell disappears when garment dries.

My car has gray leather seats…
It doesn’t smell at all

I would definitely soak in cold water and vinegar before sitting in the car.
