For the first wash, I'd wash it separately.

I already washed it once 
For the next wash, once I have the color catcher sheets, I'll do it alone. But for future washes after that? Is it necessary?

I usually wash it on cold with other black items and I haven't had any problems so far. I assume it'd grey a bit over time but not significantly enough for me to bother washing separately.
