I want to make fondant cookies for purim and I have no idea how to start. Does this require a special cookie recipe? Also where do I buy the fondant? or perhaps can I make it? Can anyone share any tips on how to decorate them? Thanks

Fondant cookies are really simple to make. You make a rolled sugar cookie recipe if you need one I can give you one. After the cookies have cooled off you take the fondant and roll it thinly on a silpat. Then using the same cookie cutter as you did for the shape of your cookies you cut out the fondant and paste on top of the cookie. You can decorate the cookie with more fondant flowers or bought stuff or even hard frosting. It's really easy to do. You can buy these items in any hardware store, Peppermill, AC Moor, Rag Shop, Chef Central, etc. AC Moore and Rag Shop every week have a 40% off one item too.

Good luck

How do you paste the fondant? I am planning shaloch manos cookies that involve icing a large area. Would this be easier or harder (assuming I have zero fondant experience)

I never thought of using fondant for cookies. I'll have to try that one day.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful suggestions!

Nikki, yes please can you post the recipe?

Another question, someone told me I shouldn't make fondant cuz it's horrible and not edible. So now I'm thinking of maybe covering it with icing. Fondant really looks easy to work with but I want my cookies to be edible. Now I can't decide between Icing and Fondant.

I just watched these videos on youtube on how to make them.

I use all the Wilton recipes. Both for the cookies and for the fondant. (I don't use gum paste, just leave it out.)

If you're worried about the taste of the "rolled" fondant, there is a pourable fondant recipe as well. It's not quite as sweet, much more edible. It's good for cakes and petit fours; I'm not sure how well it would work on a more solid cookie.
