I dont expect hands and knees although when I grew up it was status quo. I think thats how they did it in Europe and most cleaning help came from there. I do expect them to bend down and do the corners where the mop doesn't reach well.

My cleaning lady mops with a shmatta attached to the mop.
I don't know anyone that has their cleaning help wash the floors on all fours. That is so disrespectful & demeaning.

This. Its a o cedar mop with microfiber refills. She takes off shmatte and washes in machine after each use. My mothers polish cleaning ladies insisted on washing floors on hands and knees so must be cultural

Same here. Mine broke so she recommended one to me. It was expensive but so worth it.

Years ago I had a Polish cleaning woman who chose to wash with a shmatta even though I had a mop. She was very old and it hurt my knees just seeing her in that position. But she insisted that was the best way to clean a floor .
I’ve never had a cleaning woman since who would wash without a mop.
I personally wash my floors every so often on my knees . I don’t find it demeaning . It just hurts my knees , so I would never ask another person to do it that way

My mother washed the floor on her hands and knees. We had a large family and small kids who used to drop food and spill a lot. Why is asking somebody to wash the floor on their hands and knees more demeaning than asking them to clean your toilets?
Are the O-Cedar and Vileda mops the same with different names?

I know you were trying to be funny, but your comment made me feel nauseous. Almost as much as when people use the word '[cleaner]'. Ichs.
This whole thread is almost unbelievable. Are you really discussing whether or not a woman who was also made in G-d's image should get down on her hands and knees to clean your floors?! We live in very, very different world m'dears.
ETA ha! I love how g-o-y-t-e was censored. Great job, Yael/mods/whoever is responsible for that![/quote]

I wouldn't ask because it's very hard work if you're not used to it, but I dont think it's demeaning. It was a normal thing growing up for me & I do it myself sometimes. I guess it's cultural. For stairs & small bathrooms I think it is a reasonable request.
