This sounds like it’s for an Israeli kiddish Smile
I’m in Toms River. But it is quite interesting to see all different options

My DD and DIL tell me that ladies are not allowed to eat at a kiddush,

That its socially "off".

Huh? I am making a kiddush soon and it would be super weird for me to prepare all that food so it should remain untouched? Every kiddush I go too, all the ladies eat. The young ones eat the salad 😀

When they are small, they are called "tarts" and not pies.

Fillings can be savory like miniature quiche or sweet.

They can be quite imaginative as well.

Not quite the same but I had miniature cannoli served with a lox mousse inside.

Same though. I don’t think I’ve seen a Pie or a tart, savory or sweet at a kiddish.

I've seen them when people order a selection of miniatures from a bakery. Most people don't make individual tarts themselves because they are time consuming

But they can be quite delicious from a good bakery.

I mean I can imagine what a tarte looks like I’ve just never had them at a kiddish. The kiddeishim in my neighborhood are vast majority real (hot) food.

Adding in some Sephardic kiddush food because no one else has really mentioned - we have kibbeh, Moroccan cigars, lachmagine, and these really good spicy empanada things. They are always the big hits. For the more substantial food there might be Moroccan chicken, meatballs with peas, chicken stuffed with rice, beef kabobs. Dessert always varies, lots of petit fours, babkas, donuts, cannolis, chocolate truffles etc. Women definitely eat, I'm not passing all this up lol.
