Most people can’t afford the whole car price and that’s what they do

No unfortunately I can’t. My salary is very unpredictable right now until I find another job.
Maybe I could scrape another $1000 but that’s it.

I wouldn’t do it… I don’t know. Cars that old are money pits…
I wish I had a better solution for you

We buy old used cars. my logic is the purchase price should be less than it costs to lease for a year, and mantaince costs after that shouldn't exceed $1,000 a year. We run our cars into the ground and then replace cheap. We average about $8k for4-6 years of car use including repairs, which given that a lease is currently $6k a year , I consider a success.

In our experience, Toyotas and Hondas last very long- over 150k miles and close to 20 years easily. But the biggest thing is how well maintained it is. You need a mechanic you trust to look it over.

Can you wait a bit longer and see if something else comes up? None of them sound ideal. I totally get you being on a restricted budget. We had the same issue. We ended up waiting longer and spending a bit more on a toyota. The mechanic said that it's worth paying a little more for a car that you won't need to keep bringing back to the mechanic.
My mother bought a small honda last year. Low mileage, in great shape, there was no reason for there to be an issue. She's had problem after problem with the car, whilst my aunt has exactly the same car, same year, similar mileage and it's been running smoothly for years.
Second hand cars are mazel. You can get a great one that will keep running and running, and you can get one that will spend more time in the mechanic than not.

What is everyone's thoughts.
Or the 2004 Santa Fe with 62,000 miles.
