It's unlikely that a store stole it. Some skimmers can relay information remotely. It's also possible that the thieves are selling the stolen card info and it's being used in separate states.
This happened in Baltimore at a kosher store as well.

I think this is how I got scammed , I got this text message and followed the prompts. This number is a total scam.
“ EBT: Your New York,account is on hold. Please call:8887200715 to reactivate.”
When I hung up I was like I think I just got scammed.
The scam happened like 1.5 weeks after I placed that call

I'm getting my new benefits tomorrow. Should I change my PIN tonight? I also want to go shopping tomorrow... should I change my PIN immediately after shopping too?

This also happened to me. Over $1500.00!! I didn't respond to any texts or anything.

Sometimes if I don't have my card on me, I'll give the cashier the number. Does anyone know if the scam is only by swiping?

Advice is to change your pin frequently but absolutely the day before and the day after you are due the benefits.
Cover your hand when entering your pin.
Take a look at the physical apparatus you are using as the skimmers have some physical giveaways

Im still waiting for my benefits but I want to change my pin and I couldn't figure out how to do it. I have the app.
Im hoping to get the stolen benefits back in time for pesach!!!

Call the number on the back of your card to change your pin.

It’s happening in a few different areas recently (one area I know there already investigating and they warned all people that it didn’t happen to should change their pin emergency.

Mine too was weird locations. A few walmarts I never visited.
