Children start wiping themselves at about five but don't expect them to be thorough until about seven or eight.
Washing their own bodies I would say at about six, but since they are not unattended at this age, I do a once over anyway. Shampooing also about six or seven. Depends how sensitive their eyes are, how mature the individual child is etc. Once again, they tend not to thoroughly rinse their hair until later, when they actually start showering themselves, which in my family is at about age eight.

I wonder if the answer is more, how they're generally brought up and whats generally expected or encouraged, or the dynamics of the household. Because my numbers are way younger than above.
My son before age 3 could wash himself, his hair and could join his brother in a shower or even take one himself. (Practically he is bathed by us daily)
But - he's a boy, he has older brothers to copy, and also personality. My oldest at 3 just wouldn't have done that.
My oldest has been bathing or showering himself all school year and he just turned 7.
One kid at 4.5 I still wipe, one kid at 4.5 was wiping himself. (and I trusted him to be thorough by the time he was in pre1a which is 6)
