If my son wears a size 6 children's place pants, would that be size 6 in kidchic too?

I'm not sure. It's hard to know because they fit so differently. I found the children's place to run very long on my son and kidichic not. I found kidichic to be more true to size

I find that boys pants are very individual. What works very well for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. Each child has a different build.

Yes they rip but if they so inexpensive you always can afford to buy more
Always have 2-3 extra new ones at home
They are $9-10 regular price and look great one

Are they true to size?
