I don't think there's any secret. It's hard. My kids fight, they hit each other, they mess up each other's toys. Usual kid stuff. But it's not every moment of the day. Well, now I'm having pregnancy complications so we don't get out much and as a result they're more rowdy. But luckily my older one starts pre-k in a week and a half.

When they're on top of each other too much, weather permitting, we just go to the park, which is generally a nice place for both a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old. (so are kids museums, the zoo, botanical gardens etc but they do cost money) Or for a playdate since other kids' toys are always a great distraction. Last week I made up a scavenger hunt. The 2 yr old didn't really get it but it was still a nice walk for him through the neighborhood. The list included things like wind chimes, a truck, a red car, yellow flowers, etc

Both my boys like playdoh, painting, coloring, playing with blocks, puzzles...they may be on different levels but it's basically the same activity. As long as I'm with them supervising, the trouble is kept to a minimum. It's when I try to get any housework done that they start with one another.

As long as my older one gets a lot of individual attention while my 2 yr old is sleeping or otherwise occupied, he's more understanding about his younger brother's mischievous ways.

So are mine, but I don't think I count because they've been in school since March.

my kids are home and making me crazy.
It is worse that I'm 2 weeks after birth so I can't even take them out at all.
I can't wait till school starts.
I just sent my husband out with them on a bus to go get popsicles... I don't care just something to get them out of the house for at least a short time.
it's just too much vacation already!
