I voted 6 or older, but only for long walks or late at night.

I walk a lot. Don't own a car.

Toddler up to age 3, I need wheels. Even if the kid is walking nicely. Just in case. Wheels can have a younger baby in it. But if in a pinch, I need to put the toddler in, then it's there. (I can hold the younger baby more easily, take along a baby carrier... or put the toddler on a buggyboard or even the footrest on some of my strollers.)

From 3-4, they can usually handle walks if not too long. I use strollers for my own convenience because I have places to be and they walk like snails at this age usually.

4-5, only if it's a far walk on Shabbos or an airport. But this is rare enough that I could borrow a stroller. In an airport I might skip the stroller at this age because waiting for strollers has given me so many disaster stories in the past.

5+ only in extenuating circumstances.

So personally, I'm planning on getting rid of my big stroller when my baby turns 4.

I used it till age 6 about for very very long walks or very very late at night.
I have walked as far as 3 hours on a shabbos (when weather is stunning) and my older kids definitely needed to rest their feet. I don't think a 4 year old could go that far without being in the stroller at all.

My almost 5 year old occasionally rides for long walks but I told her when she hits 5 it's over.

By 2.5 we were totally finished with it by my first and second. Including half HR fast walks on Shabbos to my in-laws. Usually took more like 45 mins.
My youngest is nearing that now. I would be surprised if she isn't using it anymore.

What was funny was when I had a 4 year old and 6 year old. They were both around the same height and weight but the 6 year old had more stamina. But he could never understand why the 4 year old got offered the stroller when she was tired and he didn't.

My 8 year old still stands on the back bar between the wheels when he doesn't want to walk.

For me it's not so much about age more about when they get kicked out of the double because of the next baby.

My last gap was larger, but I don’t think I used it much past 3.5. Even then it was for airports or lots of walking.

When I had smaller gaps, somehow my kids managed doing mostly walking by 2.5 or so.

It probably depends on the kid and the lifestyle. We don't have a car so lots of walking happens every day. I often don't have time to let young kids/toddlers walk. Plus if they get tired, I'm literally stuck.
