Wondering if I am up for the process. A piece of land is available for us in a good location.
I know it wont be cheap, but just wondering about the headache. I am not so picky, just need functional home.

Get an interior designer, get am interior designer, did I say get an interior designer? It makes the stresses alot less stressful. I didn't build from scratch. I made a gut renovation. I loved every minute of it. I loved designing my own home.

I did. I’m not into details, don’t need fancy, just wanted functional house … it’s very stressful… a lot of decisions to make about things you didn’t even know existed on this planet! A designer is a must if building from scratch. She’s not just about picking tiles and paint colors… she can answer questions in her sleep that your builder will ask you along the way and need answers to asap

If you trust your designer you will save yourself a lot of stress. I’m a designer. I want my clients homes to be beautiful and I’ll stay within their budget. The ones that are so indecisive land up not listening to me and choosing terrible things by themself.

I did it about 10 years ago (before everything got crazy expensive post Covid). At one point the old house was just 4 walls and a roof, and we completely rebuilt it from scratch. I'm very happy with how it turned out, but knowing how stressful it was - another full-time job for an entire year - I wouldn't encourage anyone to go through it, especially if you're not picky and just want a functional house.
