I don't think I saw this one mentioned: Lesha
I know someone with that as a middle name named for a grandmother (she has a number of cousins also with that as a middle name).

It’s not just about Shtetl, I know Syrians who are called Jamila or Reina. Personally, I stick to biblical names, because that’s the true Mama Loshon. Not Yiddish or Arabic. But that’s my unpopular opinion. |
I agree with you.
Shtetl’dig names aren’t the original name. They used a name and added the polish/hungarian/German kvetch.
I don’t think it makes sense to make this into a new name that now descendants for generations have to use. It’s like a nickname to the original.
Take the original, and Americanize it or change it to hebrew etc.

Mine as well. AFAIK no one was named after her except a male, who was named Pinchas.

Didn't read the whole thread but I knew a family with the name Shimah (pron shimuh). It was a family name and a few grandchildren had it.
First time I heard the name Trane (pron Trana or Tranie) - a New Square name - I thought it was so strange.

I had a neighbor growing up who had 7 names and her brothers had 8 and 9.
Their mother gave them names in a bunch of different languages (first couple were Hebrew) so they would have a name to use in every part of the world...

Yaspeh. I'm assuming it's the feminized version of yoseph?

I also know a Neshama and 2 women named Yosepha.
I also know an Avrahama, a Ya’akova and a Davida.
TBH, feminized male names aren’t my thing.
(But I do think Ariella and Daniella work)

I name for a Zlata. Zahava works quite nicely. Same meaning and a Z.

This is German, presumably its pronounced with a ches. My husband's grandmother was henchen (also pronounced with a ches). So far nobody's named that...
