Sorry but I love the fact that I'm not rebbish.
I would never want to be. If anything I pity the ones who are.

why do you pity?
I think it’s funny you love that about yourself it’s obviously something that plays a part in you.

[quote="amother Teal"]I was once watching videos of people getting a Bracha from the Lubavitcher Rebbe. One of the men approached the Rebbe and said I'm a descendant of (insert big name yichus) and the Rebbe immediately and very kindly responded "and you are also a descendant of Sara, Rivka, Rochel and Leah"...

Dat's my Rebbe!

TBH I wouldn't want to be known as meyuchasdik. What a burden, living in the shadow of your great forebears and having people look for all the ways in which you don't measure up. As just plain Plonit bat Almoni mibeit Nobody in Particular, I only have to live up to myself.

Can you elaborate?
How do you know you aren’t descended from a Rabbi somewhere along the way? It seems likely based on what I’m reading here.

I married into a family with a very recognisable yichus name and I hate it lol.

The only thing that matters is what you do with your life. Yichus might be nice to aim to be like your ancestors but all jews have yichus. Some known, some not known because the information has been lost. And if you are a ger, that is big yichus because no one can stand in your shoes.

I want to draw your attention to your own contradictions.

On the one hand, you feel the need to communicate that your prestigious family is dysfunctional.

On the other hand, you only dare do this under the cover of anonymity. And now you are telling me that you would never wash dirty laundry in public.

See how contradictory that is? Or an example of dysfunction?

It's not contradictory or dysfunctional at all.
She is making a point that a family with yichus doesn't mean all is well over there..
she would rather a simpler family without the yichus but a functional one...
it would actually be pretty dysfunctional for her to post her family name on this thread after disclosing that!!!!! not to mention LH!!
people with dysfunctional families still love their families and want to protect them!! would be mighty sad if not...

just want to add that I don't know who my ancestors were but I am certain that many of them were special people and rooting for me- I have been guided in different directions so many times in my life that was certainly zchus Avos....
I know this was said before but all of us certainly are descended from some great people...
it is known that ancestors come to the Chuppa of their descendants..
we were told by many people that there was something awesome about our Chuppah....
it felt like the heavens were open and there were many Neshamos there...
