I wasn't sure where to put this.

DH told me on shabbos that chassidim don't lein at their bar mitzvahs. Coming from an MO background, this is so interesting to me. What do chassidish boys do for their bar mitzvah? I know litvish and MO lein.

They just get an aliyah. We lucked out, our boys don't need to get all stressed about leining!

My son just had his bar mitzvah.
He was olah- made the brachos and then said the brachos after maftir.

At his bar mitzvah he said a p'shetel that took at least 15 minutes.

Some boys don't finish the first sentence and they're cut off by the men singing in because they're shy.

The shabbos after he was also olah just for Baruch shepturani.

In my chassidus only oilah shabbos after bar mitzvah, not before. Don't make a big deal out of it.

We are not chassidish but the shul/kollel we daven in only allows maftir and haftorah. No full parsha.

Same, it’s common in yeshivas and kollels and the yeshivish minyanim. I like that they learn the basics of leining but it’s much less pressure than the full parsha.

Even if it's the Shabbos after their bar mitzvah chassidish boys don't officially lein. Not the regular parshah and not maftir.
At least that's how it is in my chassidus.

Everyone holds that before B"M cant lein whole parsha. Those that lein, only do so shabbos after.

Generally chassidim dont lein. Although in my very chassidish family, some do.

Yes, and the reason for that is, that many times they make so many mistakes that its not fair to the oilam, that they dont hear a proper leining.

Most chassidim don't lein maftir or haftorah either, whether before or after bar mitzvah. They only get an aliya.

That's not the reason. In order to lain you need to have reach puberty. Instead of embarrassing those who haven't... nobody lains...
