Start by learning to define and elaborate what you want and then writing it out. Research involves asking a lot of questions, listening to responses and asking more questions. Sharing information that you have and what the next step is. One liners is aren't going to get you very far.

What is your question? Are you hired by the business to do research? Are you researching a business you are considering buying? If the latter and the business is in existence, visit an accountant with the business records - profit margins, expenses etc

The first aspect is actually knowing people.

They say your network is your net worth.

While a big network might not be crucial in your industry, a small group of people is necessary to get any business off ground.

What is the need for the service your are offering?
How much are people willing to pay for it?
How much will it cost you?
How much do you have to make in order to make a profit?
Do you have an accountant or someone that can do the basic math with you as to how much your expenses will be?
What makes you think this service is profitable?

I am not sure I am heading in the direction you need.
