The Avent bottle with a slow flow (newborn) nipple works well for most breastfed babies. They have to suck on it the same way as they nurse to get milk out of it.

As for giving a bottle from day one, you might want to wait a few weeks. If you start after 2 or 3 weeks and they are nursing well, you don't risk nipple confusion and yet they are still young enough to be willing to take something unfamiliar. Unfortunately, if you wait until they are 6 weeks or so (as many will recommend) some are not so willing to try the bottle.

when my baby was 2 months old he was really sick and wouldn't nurse. I pumped and my husband tried giving it to him in a bottle b/c I thought it might be easier for him, but he refused to suck it. some babies get stuck in a habit very quickly.
I wouldn't even leave him for half an hour b/c his feeding schedule is too erratic.
