I used a really good recipe from the kosher by design called bakery cookies (I think) Just make sure the cookies don't overbake and get too brown and also try to make them even thicknesses

try this:
4 eggs
3/4 c. oil
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 c. corn starch
Mix all this and add flour a little at a time, till u get to the proper consistency . (more or less 4 cup, depends on the weather)
you can also add cocoa powder before finishing to mix, so u have some chocolate ones too.
these cookies will grow just a bit in the oven but wont go out of shape, and the royal icing will adapt goood because they are not fatty at all.

I dont know how many come out, but deffinately a lot!
bake @ 350 for a few minutes, I guess check evey five minutes or so. if they bake too long theyll come out very dry
you can also put sprinkles on them before baking, or sugar, or peanuts or whatever you want.
