My son is walking pretty well and I take him to the park and let him walk by himself and with the walker.
Until recently I just put him in soft leather Robeez type shoes, but now it is too cold for that.
What are your favorite first walking shoes? I know some pediatricians still recommend those high top styles (not sure what brand makes them), but many of the articles I've read and my friend's child's foot specialist say ankle support is no longer considered necessary. I can't find any information regarding arch support, but everything I've read says a flexible sole is a must.
So what is your favorite brand? Stride-Rite? Pedipeds? Jack & Lily? Where is your favorite place in Flatbush to buy them?

Rivka's first shoes were PUmas. We are in EY though and maybe the selection was less? They were the only ones that fit her feet LOL. I really liked them though, protected from the cold but still somewhat soft and flexable.

my son is wearing pre-walkers, even tho he is walking very confidently these type of shoes have a completely flexible sole so the foot can bend naturally. the brand I have is start-rite which I think is the same as stride-rite. im very happy with them n they look cute.

My son has a pair of geox and I love them. He still hasn't grown out of them.
*oh and they're his second pair

they say that eccos are the best for first shoes because of their good arch which will prevent the child from developing flat feet

I took my DD to Schwartz's Shoes to get her shoes. They are on 16 Ave & 49 St in BP. They fit very well and have a decent selection. They will also guide you as to what type of shoe would be best for your child. And they do not push the most expensive pair on you. I was extremely pleased and went back there afterwards for her second pair.
