Hey all,
A family friend is making upsherin in chanuka and I would like to make something for the occasion. I like to 'patchke' so it can involve a lot of work, but I really want to step it up and make it really impressive. Any ideas???

you can make a trifle. I make one with brownies, a layer of pudding and chocolate chips and chocolate syrup then a layer of whip cream. You keep making layers in this order and then top it with whip cream and add chocolate shavings on top or any other topping.
I've also made one with vanilla pound cake, fruit-like strawberries, bananas and blueberries and whip cream. It can look very nice, everyone is always impressed when bring it out for dessert.

A couple years ago I made chanuka cookies and decorated them with royal icing. They came out looking really pretty. Since the party is on chanuka that might be an idea.
Also on the chanuka theme, you can make donuts with all different fillings and toppings.
Otherwise, how about miniatures? Yodels, pastry horns filled with cream & drizzled with chocolate, miniature eclairs, mini tarts...that sort of thing. Miniatures always look impressive.

you can make "black & white" cookies but either in the shape of a dreidle or make a dreidle picture on it with the upsherin boys name or something ... just thinking aloud

thanks you all!
I was actually thinking of maybe making a cupcake tower. I've seen these cupcake holders/towers in store and thought it might be a nice idea. something like this
does anyone know how to make those really fancy cupcakes? To make it look sort of 'gourmet'?

I have one of those cupcake towers and it's made by Wilton, the "first name" in decorating cakes and baked goods. Try their website for info or how-tos.

what bout something like this

it's a train mold for individual cupcakes, you put it together, it looks like a train and then people can just take their individual piece.
