I am just curious what the demographics are like here - there are a lot of people who don't post, and I am hoping to shake some ladies out of the woodwork!!

Yes, you do...you're "home" here, girlfriend! (Amein, Willow for saying that!)
I broke from conservative...I was always somewhat teased about feeling uncomfortable wearing "women's" kippot---like it being pink with a breast cancer ribbon embroidered on it made it a less masculine item; refusing to lay tefillin or wear a tallis, etc. Being "accused" of "acting Frummer than Thou" got me thinking that maybe there was a reason I was being perceived that way...maybe because FrumKeit was what my heart and soul was all along!

I grew up in a conservative community, but they did not have these "women weare kippot and talitot"-thing. the most outrageous was that women sat at the sides of the men section and there was a choir in Synagogue... but than... oh, I think I read too much Isaac Bashevis Singer, that is what made orthodox live look like the alternative for me.

I think that what He Sings To Me describes as "conservative" is ultra reform in europe!
conservative in europe (as far as I know) is women and men sitting together, and ppl are not very shomrei shabbos etc, but women do not put on kipah and tallis etc!

nananana - not sitting together - it is boys on one side - girls on the other side, that is it. but if you want a real reform minjan with a chazzanit and a gabbait you have to go to Berlin/Oranienburger Strasse ... that must be an exciting experience.... *making faces* Wink

Yes, it included "mixed seating"...the whole family sat together, and women were honoured with aliyot and torah readings...I just didn't mention the whole megillah... Rolling Eyes
