Lubavitcher men wear jeans? Not my husband and not Lubavitchers in general.

Well that's not what chassidish means, so your book is not correct.

crayon, did you ever hear the word chinuch, or background? well everyones book is written according to their chinuch and background. I don't think you can say that her book is wrong . I do believe it is different than yours.

I personally don´t think her whole book is wrong, but that page about chassidish=bekeshe/spodek is probably a misprint!

Thank you, bandcm. That is obviously what I meant. :-)

If I said that my book said that MO people are Conservative people who happen to keep Shabbos, would my book still be correct?

You might say a typical B.T. look is jeans and a tee shirt....or at least it used to be.

But yeah, I get your point about a man's differences!

Maybe the Rebbe wouldn't define Chabad levush as jeans and a polo shirt, but it's known that Lubavitchers dress more casually and more trendy than their chassidishe counterparts.

and a big shame on us.

carrot, I think there is a huge difference between leaving your hat or jacket behind because the setting doesnt call for it (no, I dont necessarily agree with that, but dont get me started) and wearing a polo shirt.

I just wrote a whole reply which I somehow lost...

So I will skip the stories of teenage boys who I saw running around playing sports and all kinds of messy things wearing white button down shirts, and pitied immensely...

and just summarize:

While I am surprised when I see a Lubavitch guy in jeans, I do not see the horrors of a polo shirt.

youre talking about some people who want a more modern lifestyle, so yes, it is a good thing that they (the ones you know) still have kept their beards.

Well, for starters, shouldn't one judge their fellow favorably?
How does GR know that the man in question didn't just grow out that beard?

In general, I am surprised that someone who is a Lubavitcher would have such a narrow minded view.

We are lubavitch, we are not chassidish, but modern. My husband wears jeans and used to trim his beard. If he was aware of your view of such men, maybe he would have continued to trim.

Mom3boys, if your husband used to trim and now doesn´t, that´s fantastic! It shows that he is interested in taking on himself another mitzva, which makes him a big step closer to being a true Lubavitcher chosid.

does it really matter if one is lubavitch, hasidish, modern orthodox, litvish etc etc etc.? we are all jews in the end, and none of it will matter.

So when reading what you wrote, it doesn't sound like it should be so suprising. But like bandcm wrote its very good that he is taking it on B"H.

I am surprised that one would be so quick to judge a person based on his clothes, and automaticly make the assumtion that the person in jeans and a beard is someone on his way down as opposed to on his way up.
